Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is the movement based diagnostic system, designed to clinically assess 7 fundamental movement patterns in those with known musculoskeletal pain. The assessment provides an efficient method to systematically find the cause of symptoms, not just the source, by logically breaking down dysfunctional patterns and diagnosing their root cause as either a mobility problem or a stability/motor control problem.

This systematic process allows clinicians to clearly match their intervention to the main problem of the patient. This model efficiently integrates the concepts of altered motor control, the neurodevelopmental perspective, and regional interdependence into musculoskeletal practice.

If your thinking about an FMS assessment, but have pain the Fitness Lab also offers an even more advanced screening called the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA). SFMA is an assessment system that helps a therapist identify and analyze imbalances in patients or clients functional movement patterns through 7 full body movements. Once deficient functional movement patterns are identified, your physical therapist then uses the SFMA to help determine whether the underlying cause of the dysfunction is related to mobility or stability/ motor controls issues. From there your physical therapist can precisely integrate their findings into your treatment plan to help produce faster results.  Contact us or call the Fitness Lab at 303-800-2829 to schedule your SFMA consultation today at Highlands Ranch & Greenwood Village, CO centers.
