FAQs
What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy is a medical, hands-on approach to relieving pain and restoring function. Physical therapists are medical experts in musculoskeletal and neurological conditions and work closely with physicians. Our physical therapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to eliminate it.
While every patient's condition and pain is unique, your physical therapist will use a variety of gentle hands-on techniques, exercises, and equipment to relieve pain quickly and restore your function to optimum levels. The overall goal is to restore pain-free mobility and function and to prevent the injury or pain from recurring.
How do I know if physical therapy will help me?
Working with you and your doctor, we can discuss your options and help determine if physical therapy will be the right choice for you. Contact us today to discuss your current condition and even set up an initial consultation.
Can I go to any physical therapy I choose?
As a patient you have the right to receive physical therapy at any place you choose. At The Fitness Lab Physical Therapy, you will receive the highest quality care while achieving the results you need. We pride ourselves on providing a positive, encouraging environment with well-trained, friendly staff. We are confident in our ability to help you reach your goals and live a pain-free life.

What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring your Insurance Card, Driver’s License, and preferred source of payment. If you have a referral from your Doctor you will need to bring that as well. If you are covered by Workers' Compensation or Auto Insurance, bring your claim number and your case manager's contact information.
You will also need to bring your paperwork which is available on our website. Feel free to print it out at home or fill it electronically and email it to fit@FitnessLabCO.com. If you send the paperwork to us electronically we will have it printed out and ready to go for your evaluation.
Please fill this out prior to your visit as it will save you a significant amount of time. If you are unable to access the paperwork prior to your visit please arrive 15 minutes early to your initial evaluation.
What if I don’t have insurance?
For patients who do not have insurance, we offer cash and concierge physical therapy services.
What should I wear to physical therapy or for training at the Fitness Lab?
You should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. If we are treating an extremity, we will need to expose the area. For neck and back injuries, we will also need to expose the area for evaluation and treatment procedures. Loose fitting t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers are always preferred for physical therapy patients. We offer private changing areas. Workout attire and sneakers are best for training clients.
How long will each visit last?
All visits at the Fitness Lab last between 45-60 minutes.
How many visits will I need?
At the Fitness Lab, we treat each client and patient as an individual and never set specific time frames without an evaluation. In general, the number of visits needed fluctuates from one case to another as it is determined in part by your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, your specific goals, and/ or your overall conditioning. The number of visits necessary for physical therapy will be dependent on the treatment plan developed by you and your therapist. The number of visits for personal training, medical exercise, and sports performance training will be dictated by your goals and developed by you and your trainer. During the course of your physical therapy treatments or training services, you will also be re-evaluated periodically, allowing us to fine tune your training program and to help better guide you on duration and frequency of your rehab.
Do you offer programs for me once I am done with physical therapy?
Yes, at the Fitness Lab we believe that your body deserves to be continually cared for even when the pain is gone. We offer long-term management programs like Medical Exercise, Personal Training, and Sports Performance, all designed to help you continue to Move Better, and Feel Better!
Will it hurt?
Physical therapy is not meant to hurt, but to relieve pain. However, as you restore your mobility, pain levels, at times can fluctuate. You might experience some temporary soreness from using muscles that are weakened or recovering. This is a normal response to therapy treatment. Good communication with your therapist will help minimize any discomfort. We want you on your way to quick pain relief and back to normal activities.
Will insurance cover my treatment?
In most cases, it will. See a full list of our covered insurances here. The Fitness Lab staff will assist you in contacting your insurance company to verify your coverage. Verifications are not a guarantee of benefit. For your convenience, we offer a variety of payment options.
What type of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, debit card, and credit card. We are happy to discuss payment plan options as well. It is our policy that payment is made at the time of service. Your insurance benefits will be determined before your second visit, and you will be informed of what, if any, payment is necessary on that date.
What types of education/training do your therapists have?
Physical therapists have years of university-level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. At the Fitness Lab, all of our physical therapists have graduated from accredited physical therapy programs, are Doctors of Physical Therapy, and are state licensed. Rest assured, your therapist is well trained to evaluate and treat your condition.
Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
Colorado is a direct access state, meaning that most patients can go directly to a physical therapist without a doctor referral. There are a few exceptions to this rule including patients who have Medicare, Tricare Prime, Workman’s Comp, and Motor Vehicle Accident insurance. All of these patients must have a referral from their doctor prior to the first visit. If you need help obtaining a referral from your MD please call us at 303-800-2829 and we will gladly assist you.
